Marketing for Trades and Renovation Companies
Electricians, flooring installers, plumbers and renovators win work when customers can find, trust and call them fast.

Trades and renovation customers usually search when they need something: a burst pipe, a new floor, a kitchen that has to change. They decide quickly, and they choose businesses that appear reliable and easy to reach. Being visible and reassuring at that moment is everything.
This guide covers how these customers search, the parts of a marketing plan that matter most for electricians, plumbers, flooring installers and renovators, and the common mistakes that waste budget.
Understand two kinds of customer
- Urgent: a leak, a power failure, a broken boiler. These customers search “emergency” or “near me”, call the first credible option and rarely compare.
- Planned: a renovation, a flooring upgrade, a new bathroom. These customers research for weeks, compare several businesses, look at photos and reviews and ask friends.
Be found where customers look
- Complete and active Google Business Profile, with accurate categories, photos of real jobs and a steady flow of reviews.
- A page for each service and each area you genuinely cover; see our service areas for how we structure local pages.
- Pages that match urgent searches, such as emergency call-outs, for services where speed matters.
- Consistent business details across your website and directories.
Make your website call-first
- Show your phone number in the header and make it tap-to-call on mobile.
- Keep quote forms short: name, phone, what you need, and location.
- Show licences, insurance and warranties clearly; they reassure people who cannot judge the work in advance.
- Load fast on a phone. Slow pages lose urgent customers immediately.
Show the work
Planned-work customers want proof. Use real before-and-after photos, short project stories that explain the brief and the result, and reviews from named local customers. A small number of well-photographed projects beats a large gallery of poor images. Browse how we present real projects on our work page, including trades and renovation clients such as Intropro Electric, WestFloors and Caspian Mechanical.
Reviews are your reputation
Ask every satisfied customer for a review, ideally the same day the job is finished, and send a direct link. Reply to every review. For trades, reviews that mention the specific service and area help you appear for those searches and convince the next customer.
Answer the phone quickly
The best marketing is wasted if calls go unanswered. Urgent customers call the next business after a few rings or a missed call. Use call tracking to see how many calls you miss, set up a missed-call text-back or answering service, and respond to web forms within minutes, not days.
Paid search and local ads
Paid search can bring calls quickly, particularly for urgent, high-value work. Start with a modest budget, target the areas you serve, add negative keywords for jobs you do not do and send visitors to a page that matches the ad. In some regions Google also offers Local Services Ads for certain trades; check availability for your category and area. See our guide to choosing channels and budget and our Google Ads basics.
Plan for the seasons
Demand rises and falls: heating and electrical work in autumn and winter, renovations and outdoor work in spring and summer. Plan content, offers and advertising to lead the season rather than react to it, and use quieter months to gather reviews, update photos and improve your website.
Track what brings the jobs
- Use call tracking so every phone enquiry has a source.
- Track form submissions as conversions.
- Ask every new customer how they found you and record it.
- Review sources monthly and move budget to what works.
Common mistakes
- A website that hides the phone number.
- No reviews, or unanswered ones.
- Publishing dozens of near-identical city pages.
- Paying for ads without tracking calls.
- Letting the Google profile go stale.
